If you see someone
riding a log, tell him what a beautiful horse - Tunisian proverb Shake (SHA-kay), was born in Kenya in 1966. After studies at Kamwenja Teachers College and the Creative Art Center in Nairobi, Kenya, he struck out on his own and became a freelance painter. In recent years he has emerged as an artist of great imagination, flair, and a superbly balanced use of color. His style is independent and fresh, unencumbered by academic constraints. Because Shake creates images of the Maasai in original ways, his name is mentioned internationally and has had exhibitions in Kenya, Tanzania, and the U.K., and is widely collected in these countries as well and the U.S.A. Even his more abstract work, an example of which is shown here, are brash, colorful, and possess a unique harmony.
