Giko (Hosea Muchugo) I wish I knew more about this fantastic artist...but "Giko" as he is called, remains an enigma. Now I have seen the artwork of Giko for over a decade and have tried to track him down fervently, but to no avail. His paintings are very highly regarded and are seen in only the finest art galleries in Nairobi. Until recently they have always been out of my reach, that is until I rediscovered the Banana Gallery and all of the artists that use this gallery as not only their homestead, but also as their primary outlet for their work. In the mix of all this is Giko, and his paintings still dazzle me. I will continue to pursue Giko as I want to find more of his paintings. When I meet him in person I will be able to record some biographical information here on the site for you.. Until then, we'll just have to settle with these incredibly colorful and creative paintings! Update: 3 March 2007 - I have just added the two NEW Giko paintings below. Though 'Mother and Lovechild' is similar to the previous two, 'Up There with the Birds' is an interesting departure - and is one of the heaviest paintings I have. Heavy - not in the sense of the '60s - but in weight! The painting has layers and layers of painting so thick that it feels like tar on canvas. I guess it might depend on the resolution of your computer monitor, but if you look closely, on monitor at least, the scalp area and especially the area around the right hand - any area in red - look like you're wearing 3-D glasses - really raised! Both paintings are really beautiful! Hope you like them! If you are interested in either of these paintings, you are welcome to Make an Offer - or go straight to the Purchasing Form! If you are
